UNDERGROUND WATER, image - Coggle Diagram

    - - underground cavity that connects with the surface through a more or less vertical conduit
    - - groundwater laden with dissolved calcite seeps through the ceiling of the caves and forms droplets, which hang from the ceiling. Over time, part of the water evaporates and the solutes precipitate in the form of calcite, giving rise to a stalactite. If the drops fall to the ground before the calcite precipitates, a stalagmite is formed.
