Greek Commentary Responding
Greek Info Pack Criterion A & D
Really helped me understand more about ancient greek tragedy, perfect intro.
Chorus
Essential and has been applied to our task 2 and 3 as well, if I'm being real I think it's because it's easiest the accomplish in covid circumstances.
I like the idea of synchronisation, i like respect the element of unity and attempted to apply it in future projects
Lines must be emotionally delivered and movement and speeches are exaggerated,
Vocal work and music
key element to set a mood and what to stuck to me was even without voice, silence can create tension as well. It'll be cool if the audience felt nerve-racking.
Costume and masks
most difficult to accomplish because our generation interacts with plays which tend to emphasise characters rather than a whole
I also think I don't really have that urge or effort to make a mask out of plain materials like paper, so i tend to avoid it and it's a weakness of mine i'd say.
Theme
praising the god Dionysus (fertility) and back then greek theatre was performed by unqualified actors who attempted to convey events happening in real life during that time.
and I think they were called Thespians
Stage work
Theatron (curved shape so people within the audience were able to interact with the orchestra stage effectively.
having that learning experience by completing the tasks in 2 made it funner, and I strongly by making an activity funner we'll natural learn quicker
I also like how we referred grade 7's as idiots so that was nice.
We definitely acknowledged quite a few greek elements from the Mr. Wynn's talk and those elements were...
Proposal Criterion C
I connected and favoured this one the most because it related to me. I just watched the tv series Euphoria which heavily communicated the message a group of high school students struggle with drugs, love, social media and money
And I was personally struggling to find a motivation, I struggled in almost every subject to retain that high level work ethic i had, and I wanted to work relentlessly.
Combining the euphoria work and my personal struggles, I wanted to have a work to feel proud of because i put my effort in it and it was expressed from my personal perspective.
I considered costume too. Most characters of the play were teenagers so their fashion tastes were, well, acceptable. Druggies wore flashy clothes and high schools students just nike tracksuits or slap a tshirt and shorts for the day.
I did include masks briefly as a to represent druggies as lost souls but once again, play heavily focuses on modern problems so I kind binned masks.
I wanted to replicate the effects of a thrust stage, most similar to an orchestra.
I definitely considered the elements i've learnt from task a & d and really applied chorus work to the group of druggies for them to have actions in syncrhonization
chorus has to cover most of the stage, representing main character's Dominic voice emotionally
also links to vocal work because the chorus need to shout clearly to express his anger or be softer when he's sad and desperate.
for music I went for a modern approach again a opted for r&b to mimic the nightclub scenes the druggies are in.
I also remembered in between the 2 criteria, before covid even abruptly ruined our theatre development we watched about Andrew Garfield dealing with the grief of his mother through his new movie tick tick boom.
It didn't really link to greek tragedy but help me realise a good piece of work needs to be truthful, relatable with the audience.
Task 3
we create a play based on online child predators and aimed to inform a younger audience to be careful online and not always believe what they plainly see.
we had chorus work where everyone were saying their lines in canon whilst at other times we banged on objects as if they were sound effects.
we applied for vocal work, the chorus was softer and quieter when the victim felt scarred and confused and when she was angry, everything was exaggerated more
I personally thought the problem was quite meaningful considering kids online nowadays are often not careful who their speaking to online.
I believe the impact of our artistic response wasn't quite significant to the world yet because no one else other than our classmates and Mr. Walker has viewed it. Though the overall feedback was positive and they liked the problem and how we raised awareness to it.
An improvement they've identified was definitely the group's synchronisation, camera's went on and off slower than expected at times. This can be simply improved through more trials.
Finally, reflecting on the statement of inquiry "Through collaborative explorations of fairness and development, an individual or group can communicate powerful connections"
I reside with it because both explore Greek Tragedy through a personal and group perspective for proposal C and task 3 respectively. we created powerful connections of how the greek elements implemented in the past can be played around differently in the present to enhance our play, for the world's new and younger audience, to better understand topics of child predators and drugs abuse inspired by chorus work.
