SUBJECT+VERB+ING

He likes swimming
She likes running
He admitted having broken the window.

-like
-love
-adore
-enjoy
-prefer
-hate*
-finish -don't mind -can't stand -look forward to
*we can sometimes use with 'to' but 'ing' more usual
SUBJECT+VERB+TO+INFINITIVE
EXAMPLE
He forgot to call you last night
We arranged to meet at six.
What do you plan to do today?
he seems to have no idea of what's going on.
verb+to+infinitive
-agree -forget
-choose -help
-dare
-hope
-decide -learn
-expect -manage
-need -offer
-promise -refuse
-seen -want
-would like -would love -would prefer -would hate
can be used without 'to'
SUBJECT+VERB+ING or TO+INFINITIVE
(no change in meaning)
EXAMPLE
It began to rain
It began raining
He remembered to call me
verb+ing or to+infinitive (no change in meaning)

SUBJECT+VERB+SOMEBODY "TO" +INFINITIVE
EXAMPLE
Will you allow me to introduce myself?
I would hate you to get lost.
He adviced me to stay at home.
We invited them to the party.
Verb+somebody 'to' +infinitive

-encourage -expect -help -need -invite -order -remind -tell -want -warn -would like

(with a change in meaning)
EXAMPLE
I remember buying chocolate. (I have a memory)
I remembered to buy some chocolate (I reminded myself)
i stopped eating chocolate. (Idont eat it anymore)
I stopped to eat some chocolate.( I stopped doing something)
