Thinking Erros

When has your self-doubt or thinking errors gotten in the way of accomplishing something? What was the result?
When has your self-confidence helped you to achieve more than you thought you were capable of? What did that feel like? What made the difference?

Could any of the results in the table above create more stress and additional thinking errors for the person? These repeating cycles are sometimes called a “downward spiral.” Why is it bad to get caught in a downward spiral?
“Self-fulfilling prophecies” are related to the “downward spiral”. They come from thinking errors. For example, because Raúl is convinced that his boss hates him, he predicts that his next meeting with Selso will confirm it. It may not matter what Selso does or says next because Raúl’s thinking error will interpret it as confirmation of his prediction.
Have you ever created a self-fulfilling prophecy like this? How does this practice keep you from being happy?

Think back on a time you were angry. Can you trace the cause of that experience to one of the primary emotions listed above?
