Launched by Ian Scannel,
he is now know

Reffering to him, having 11 languages in South Africa (that's why SA is called the rainbow nation) may discourage/deject the hope of finding traditions in common.
At first, Ian and Tutu got the idea to gatheover a vegetable meet and sausage barbecue and to consider these elements as a national emblem/symbol.
The archbishop (=cheif of a district in SA) Desmond Tutu is supporting the event as an official national day since it earlly start.
He is a 32 years old former accountant who enjoyed inviting firends and family during weekends over a vegetable and meet barbecue, but he dreamed to establish a national day in SA like July 4th, called braai day, in attempt to bring SA people togheter, to unite them as a nation and to finish the work started by Nelson Mandela
