Pharmacology - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Capsules are gelatin shells filled with powdered or liquid medication
      - Tablets often contain other materials that are mixed with the medication and compressed
      - A solution is a liquid mixture of substances: it cannot not separate and can be given via IV, IM or SC injection
      - A suspension is substance that does not dissolve well in liquids; these will seperate if it's not filtered or it stands too long
      - A metered- dose inhaler delivers the same amount of medication each use and directs substances through the mouth into the lungs
      - Topical medications are applied to the skin surface and affects only that area that it was applied to
      - Transcutaneous medications are absorbed through the skin and often come in patches
      - Gels are a semiliquid that are administered through capsules or tubes
      - Gases are used to administer drugs through a mask; such as oxygen
- - - - Action: the therapeutic effect that a medication is expected to have on the
        body
- - - - Nitroglycerin relieves angina pain, increases blood flow, and relaxes veins. Some contraindications are it can only be given to patients with a certain blood pressure, cannot be given if patient takes ED medication, and can cause headaches.
    - - Oral glucose is a sugar that cells use for energy and treats hypoglycemia. Cons are is it can only be given by mouth and cannot not be given to an unconscious patient
      - Aspirin reduces fever, pain, and inflammation. This is very useful during heart attacks. Some contraindications are hypersensitivity to aspirin, liver damage, and shouldn't be given to children.
