Amino Acid Classification - Coggle Diagram
Amino Acid Classification
Non-polar (Hydrophobic)
(Gly)
non-polar because of the single hydrogen.
the small R group allows it much more flexibility/more combinations of bond angles
Polar (Hydrophilic)
Has a sulfhydryl group on the end - this allows it to show polar properties where it unequally shares electrons
Aromatic (bulkiest)
can also fit into the non-polar R group AAs
have polar properties/can form hydrogen bonds due to the OH/NH groups
Negatively Charged
associated with the additional carboxyl group on the end of the R group
has the ability to act as a weak acid and deprotonate
Positively Charged
Has another amine group in the chain that can act as a base/proton acceptor
