P2 - Forces and Motion Part 1
Vector quantity
Has both magnitude and direction
Examples: Force, Weight, Velocity, Displacement, Momentum, Acceleration
Velocity is speed in a given direction
Scalar quantity
Only has magnitude, no direction
Examples: Mass, Distance, Speed, Energy
Distance/Time graphs
Gradient is the speed as it is distance/time
Upwards sloping line - steady speed
Horizontal line - stationary
Outward curving line - deceleration
Inward curving line - acceleration
Downwards sloping line - steady speed towards starting point
Acceleration
Velocity/Time graph
Horizontal line - constant velocity
Upwards sloping line - acceleration
Downwards sloping line - deceleration
Gradient is acceleration as it is Δ velocity/time
Area between the line and x-axis is distance as it is velocity x time
