Research methods
Control of variables:
Extraneous variables are extra variables other than the independent variable tat may interfere with the experiment and affect the dependent variable, it is identified before he research is started. types include: participant variables differences between ps such as age. situational variables features of the experimental situation e.g. weather.
Confounding variables are variables that are found after experimenting and affecting the DV and are not controlled.
Investigator effect is when the presence of the investigator has an affect the outcome of the research for example participants being more nervous around the investigator.
Demand characteristics: are when participants work out the aim of the experiment and change their behaviour.

Randomisation is making as many things as possible due to chance to avoid these variables. Standardisation is making formalised procedures and instructions for every participant.

Aims and Hypothesis
-
Hypothesis is a clear, precise, testable statement that states the relationship between variables, stated at the start of the study.

-
How to write a hypothesis 1. identify IV and DV, 2. Operationalise the variables, 3. decide a direction for your prediction, 4. Write your hypothesis.
