Behavior Change Strategies
Behavior Change strategies
By addressing where he is in the trans-theoretical stage of change model, and discussing where he is at in his sage of change, this will be the first step in creating a behavior change strategies.
This could allow for progression into the contemplation change, therefore recognizing that there is an issue and start addressing changes.
Stages Of Change (readiness)
James seems to be in the pre-contemplation stage of change. This is the first stage in the Trans-theoretical Model of stages of change. This stage is defined as people not taking action within the foreseeable future (in the next 6 months). People are often unaware that this is a problem and is problematic and can produce negative consequences. They usually place too much emphasis on the negative to change the behavior.
The reason why I think James is in this stage of change is, he does not seem to think that this is an issue, or think theres needs to be a change in the future.
James needs a behavior change strategy to move him further in the contemplation stage, where he will consider change and recognize that there is a problem with negative consequences.
Strategies to Address the Risk Factors
By implementing more fitness and group classes, this will address the cardiovascular and obesity risks.
By changing James environment he lives in by adding structure and exercise group programs, like planned sunrise and sunset walks. Yoga and instructor lead fitness classes, with aerobics. This would allow him to socialize with others, while also moving his body and not being sedentary.
Risk factors
Risk for Obesity, by the lack of physical activity and the increase in watching television without moving his body daily. His BMI is in the overweight category and can further progress to obese.
Risk for Cardiovascular Disease, the sedentary lifestyle and the overweight BMI can lead James into risk for hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease, hypertension etc.
Risk for Depression, since James is isolated and does not have friends that he can exercise and do activities with like yoga, he is at risk for isolation that can turn into depression with feelings of lonliness.
Risk for feelings of Isolation, because James's favorite worker at the assisted living home left that job and no longer works there. He does not have anyone else who will take him no hiking trips.
Interpersonal Conflict
Since the staff member left the job and they had the connection of hiking together, he may be feeling negative emotions towards finding another friend to share commonalities with like exercise or hiking.
Intrapersonal conflict
James does not see that there is an issue with his weight, therefore when his doctor addressed his weight he may be resistant to the idea of change because he does not think it is necessary,
