LUTHER'S BREAK FROM ROME
Martin Luther was horrorised by the amount of corruption in the church

And because of this started the Protestant Reformation

Free interpretation of Bible

And support to the nobles taking over church goods
1517 Luther publishes 95 Theses
1522 Luther translates the Bible into German
CAUSES
The low clergy's lack of training.
The church didn't give importance to train their priests
So, many of them didn't behave apropiately
The sale of indulgences
When church needed money
It sold indulgences
which are supposed to help believers to be forgiven from they sins
The church's wealth
The mayority of the high clergy ocuped those positions for their own gain
And they didn't respect the morals they preached
High clergy lived live of luxury
Church posed many lands
And taxed the humble population
It also obtained income
By carrying out religious sacraments
And the veneration of holy relics
THE SPREAD OF THE REFORMATION
Lutheranism spread rapidly across northern Europe
Other "reformers" appeared also with new doctrines
John Calvin
Ultricht Zwingli
Was a swiss pastor
he founded the Reformed Church in the city of Zurich
His doctrine rejected the authority of the Pope
and proposed abolishing religious imagery
