Inbreeding of domestic canine species - Coggle Diagram
Inbreeding of domestic canine species
Initial proposal
Initial thesis: Intentional inbreeding of a particular breed of canine causes deformities and disease and must be regulated and decreased substantially
My perspective is that inbreeding can cause more harm than good and is not regulated or measured, and can cause a great deal of harm to an individual animal as well as the species as a whole.
Audience: Breeders, pet owners
I know that Inbreeding occurs when two related canines produce a litter. How would one measure how closely related two canines are to each other?
Inbreeding is measured by an equation (the coefficient of inbreeding) = CoI
Although I don't think it will be useful to explain how to use this equation in my paper it might be useful to explain the significance of the data collected using the CoI equation.
What is the CoI "danger zone"? What is a high CoI and what is a low CoI? What CoI is considered inbred? What CoI is considered normal?

As the population of any particular breed decreases inbreeding will increase, thus increasing the chance for extinction ( Beuchat).

Inbreeding occurs naturally in the wild. How does inbreeding affect wild populations?

According to my first source Inbreeding has become the normal way to produce a pure bred canine. How many dogs are inbred dogs?
Average inbred dogs: 25% (Wood). What affect does inbreeding have?
higher inbreeding leads to shorter life span (Byoko).
highly inbred dog breeds need more veterinary care (diseases, cancer, neurological issues, autoimmune diseases (Wood).
in extreme levels in inbreeding, extinction of a species (Byoko).

reduced growth (Byoko).
smaller litter sizes (Boyko).
less fertile (Byoko).
Some breeds are more inbred than others.
Larger population- smaller rates of inbreeding (Gamillo).

My audience will remain breeders and pet owners
My new thesis will remain similar however, I will include the fact that inbreeding is only detrimental when done over a long period of time without knowing the repercussions. I hope to relay the idea that not all breeders have ill intention or are careless but there are many that are detrimental to the canine species.
