R - Rest
Do not let the person go back to the sport.
Rest and elevation of the injured

Activity and massage will aggravate bleeding which
in turn will increase the size of the blood clot.
I - Ice
Place an ice pack over the area and
leave in place for up to 30 minutes
To prevent an ice burn do not
apply ice directly to the skin
A wet towel, etc should be placed over the
area and then the ice pack over that.
Ice treatment should continue for up to 72 hours
Ice should be applied 2 hourly during waking hours
C - Compression
Bandage the area with a crepe bandage
after removal of the ice pack.
Check pulse, capillary refill & sensation
after bandaging & every few minutes
If the bandage gets too tight - remove & reapply
E - Elevation
Position the injured area in such a way
as to elevate it above the heart level
