Human health
Environmental factors
where a person lives
the radiation they are exposed to
the people they interact with
whether they smoke or not
drugs intake
amount of physical activity
alcohol intake
relaxation
the water they drink
two environmental factors associated with human health: Nutrition, Lifestyle choices.
nutrition is concerned with how an organism gets its food and what type of food it gets
the food they eat
the air they breathe
A balanced diet
a balanced diet includes the correct amount of protein, carbohydrates , fat ,minerals, vitamins and water a person needs depending on: age, gender ,activity.
the benefits of eating well are: a lower risk of disease, stronger muscles and bones ,a healthy body mass and feeling better
good eating tips

water
it is a solvent-substances dissolve easily in it
the blood is mostly composed of water
water is needed for all enzymes actions.
it helps maintain body temperature at 37 C
it helps flush toxins (poisons) out of the body.
Inherited factors
every process and every reaction that takes place in the human body is controlled by chemicals. these chemicals include enzymes and hormones. there are hundreds of enzymes in the body that are essential for it to work
Maltase breaks down maltose to glucose.
Amylase breaks down starch to maltose
if amylase did not break down starch or maltase did not break down maltose the cells of the body would not get enough glucose to respire and they would die.
enzymes are protein that speed up chemical reactions.
Hormones:
Enzymes:
hormones travel in the blood to organs to bring about a response. human growth hormone causes growth to occur
hormones are protein that bring about responses in the body.
there is a gene controlling the making of each enzyme and each hormone in the body, therefore if a gene is not working properly, the particular enzyme or hormone will not be made and a person may suffer from a serious disorder.
there are many disorders associated with the lack of a particular enzyme. Sometimes symptoms are lessened by excluding particular foods from a person's diet or by giving the person supplements of the missing enzyme.
lifestyle choices
activity =
benefits include protection against the following disease : some forms of cancer, Stroke, heart disease, osteoporosis(brittle bones), Diabetes (excess blood glucose level).
smoking=
the cause of these deaths are= cancer, circulatory disease, respiratory disease, digestive disease
apart from killing diseases, smoking also has the following unpleasant effect: sagging an wrinkly skin, yellow teeth, yellow fingers, smelly breath, fuzzy tongue, dry and brittle hair, red eyes, can worsen psoriasis.
food and energy
the amount of food that you get from a food is known as its energy value.
most foods have their energy value written on the packaging label.
