Classroom Management Plan
Community in the Classroom
"Family Idea"
Using high expectations to increase the students’ sense of belonging in the classroom
A sense of belonging will help shape the students’ beliefs about themselves and others in the class
Creating belonging in the class there will be deeper engagement, more learning, as well as more fairness and respect between the students
A positive environment will boost student learning and success in the classroom. The positive environment will also create a student body that is supportive and caring of each other.
Off Task Behaviour Strategies
Try and position student in a seat that is near my desk or in a spot where I would walk or stand lots in the classroom
Isolating student will not help and just give them more opportunities to be distracted
Actively supervising students means I would be interacting with student which would keep him or her on task.
Even just making eye contact or smiling at the student from across the room would be a nonverbal reminder to keep going on with his work
Minimally decorated classroom, just to keep students a bit more focused on work and not looking around the room, and getting up to go look at things on the walls
If there was a window in the classroom I would put student's desk away from the window to lessen distractions that are outside
Nonverbal reminders to stay on task
Hand signal
Chim from my phone or computer
Smile
Eye contact with student
Assessing the activity. Sometimes the task can be too simple or too difficult, and then the student will try to escape mentally or by disrupting the class
This could be working in small groups instead of a whole group activity. Or instead of individual work, working as a large group or in small groups.
Students breaks / mind breaks / body breaks
Simone Says
Just Dance off YouTube
Using fewer words and simple instructions would also be helpful in keeping students on task
Behaviour Issues
Educational Assistants
Know where to be and what their responsibilities are when behaviour situations happen
Class Discussion
Having a class discussion would make the class more comfortable with the situation
Having a conversation with my class would inform the students
Take the time to share, listen and answer questions that my students may have or want to share during this discussion. Taking a facilitation role would allow my students to begin to make sense of disability based upon their own world viewpoint and this can be powerful in creating our own anti-bias classroom because we are willing to talk about these topics (Parker, 2021)
By focusing on building a strong classroom community it will create a bond in the classroom between students that will ensure that students feel comfortable and safe within my classroom. I would want to try this because by creating this community it will allow students to build an environment where everyone will be respected.
Discussing disabilities with the class will only strengthen our classroom community (Parker, 2021)
A place in the classroom where all students could take a body break when they feel overwhelmed. I would try this because it would help with aggressive behavior towards teachers and students, by allowing students to have the space to calm down or take their mind off of things
