2.5.2 Stroke
Brain Vasculature
-
-
The arteries carrying blood to the brain meet at the base of the skull and form the circle of Willis
Anterior Circulation
Internal carotid artery divides into the middle cerebral artery (MCA) and the anterior cerebral artery (ACA).
-
-
Posterior Circulation
The basilar artery ascends along the basal pons to reach the midbrain where it splits into the two posterior cerebral arteries (PCA)
-
-
Stroke Syndromes
-
Partial anterior circulation syndrome (PACS) 0 infarction in the territory of one of the branches of the ACS.
-
Lanuar Syndrome (LACS) - resulting from infarcts of small penetrating arteries that provide blood to the brain's deep structures, i.e., basal ganglia and thalamus.
