The nervous system
Functions of Brain area
Motor cortex: conscious control of the precise or skilled voluntary movements of the skeletal muscles
sensory cortex
information from touch, pressure, pain and temperature receptors. We are consciously aware of these sensations because brain stem nuclei relay sensory information to the primary sensory cortex.
premotor area
helps to guide body movements by integrating sensory information. It helps regulate posture by dictating an optimal position to the motor cortex for any given movement
supplementary motor area : planning complex movement s and in coordinating movements involving both hands.
to influence the planning and initiation of movements on the basis of past experience
-
visual association area :
communicate with the primary visual cortex
use the past visual experience to interpret visual stimuli
to recognise things and appreciate what we are seeing
primary auditory cortex: receive information about hearing and impulese are interpreted as pitch loudness and location

-
prefrontal cortex
coordinates iformation from the association area of the entire cortex and it is here where decisions are made about what action to take.
