Definition
Is the complication of diabetes that includes coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, hypertension, peripheral vascular disease and infection
Pathophysiology
Macrovascular conditions comprise arthrosclerosis with deposits of lipids within the inner layer of vessel walls
The risk of developing macrovascular complications is higher in those with type 1 diabetes than type 2
Nursing intervention
Management
Focus on health promotion, health maintenance and restoration of activities.
These include managing obesity and maintaining an ideal body weight by exercising, not smoking, achieving normal blood lipid level
Restoring the patient to health
Treat peripheral vascular diseases
Use blood glucose slef monitoring to keep track of disease process
Controln risk factors for macrovascular diseases
Emphasisr medication comlliance and follow up
Maintaining health
Prompt recognition and treatment of hypoglycemia with exercise, food and medication
Aggressive management of hypertension including regular blood pressure checks
Screening for high risk patients such as those with family history of diabetes

Angina
Myocardial infraction
Dysrhythmias
