How to write a formal (persuasive) essay
The Introduction
State the topic
State your point of view
Give the three main ideas you will use
Try and make the paragraph interesting and convincing
Body of essay
Here you will talk about your opinions
Each paragraph (of 3) should deal with a different issue or idea
Each paragraph should follow the SEEL structure
You should provide evidence to backup the points you make e.g. statistics, survey results, quotes, stories, examples from the news and so on.
SEEL paragraph
Topic sentence: tells the audience what the topic or idea will be. A statement (one sentence) that states the idea.
Explanation: explains to the reader what is meant by your topic sentence.
Evidence: supports the explanation with an example that shows the reader that what you say is actually true.
Link to the topic: try to summarise the paragraph.
Conclusion
The conclusion should leave the readers with something to think about.
Restate the main points using different wording
Reinforce the writer's attitude without giving new information
End with a thought-provoking question or statement

These are useful to help join the sentence together in a paragraph.
