Sternberg's triangular model of love
This model consists of three elements: intimacy, passion and decision or commitment
Intimacy is how close two partners are in a relationship . The bond or connection that they share.
Passion is the sexual drive and motion that is evident in a couple's relationship. Sexual urges or excitement
Decision/commitment is the decision one takes to commit themselves to a relationship and caring for the other person
This model describes the different types of love that exist between relationships when or if two people are seeing each other
In a relationship Sternberg combines the 3 elements:
Romantic love= Intimacy + passion. Eg) Newly married couple
Companionate love= Intimacy + commitment. Eg) An old married couple
Fatuous love= passion + commitment. Eg) An Affair
The mixture of all three which is very rare is called consummate love.
