Significance
they opened maritime trade between Asia and Europe and they helped to create a Portuguese empire. Vasco Da Gama was the first European to sail around the continent of Africa to Asia. This allowed Portugal to start trading for spices in Asia.

Significance
Magellan and his crews sailed around the world at great cost, proving that the earth was round and making its mark in the history of world navigation.
Route
Start from Spain, Crossing the Indian Ocean, and the Cape of Good Hope, passing the Cape Verde Islands. Finally they returned to Spain.
