ELTP's Terms and Concepts
Curriculum
Curriculum is a plan for learning, more general and comprehensve compared to the syllabus.
Wide and less flexible than the syllabus.
Aims long-term ambitions.
Both curriculum and syllabus are designed to make the studying process more organized.
Syllabus
Syllabus is your guide to a course. In general, it includes course policies, a schedule of assignments, rules and regulations for the course.
Used in more specific instructions.
Narrow and highly flexible.
Both are effective and necessary tools for the learning process.
Teaching Program
A teaching program is a comprehensive plan that outlines how students will be able to access the course provided as part of a curriculum. The goal is to guarantee that the studies can be completed in a logical manner.
It also describes how the curriculum is applied during an academic year. Moreover, it includes a timetable which details where and when the courses take place.
Curriculum Goals
Curriculum goals are general statements about the outcomes of the course/program.
For instance, "students will obtain an appreciation for art and literature" can be accepted as a curriculum goal.
Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes are statements that explain the information or skills that students should acquire at the end of a certain course or a program.
For instance, students differentiate fruits and vegetables or students identify animals at the end of the course, are examples for learning outcomes.
Objectives
Objectives are the purposes set in the curriculum for the acquisition of certain skills.
For example, enabling the teacher to acquire understanding of child psychology or providing student teachers with the necessary pedagogical skills, can be accepted as objectives.
