PLACE OF WOMEN IN GREECE (KORINA)
In the larger cities of Greece, such as Athens, women have a more integrated role in society and the community, than that, in the rural areas. Unfortunately, femicides have been the dominating issue in Greece’s news stories and local conversation, lately. Moreover, in the early months of 2021, Greeks witnessed the national breakout of the #MeToo Movement, after a Greek gold medalist accused a high-standing official in the Hellenic Sailing Federation of sexually assaulting her almost 20 years ago.
HISTORY AND THE IMPORTANCE OF 8TH OF MARCH (GÜLSÜM)
March 8, International Women's Day, has been celebrated in America since 1910 to commemorate the women workers who lost their lives while fighting for their rights. The strike launched by women workers against the imposed system in 1857 resulted in the death of 120 women workers. For this reason, International Women's Day celebrates the achievements of women in society, politics and business life.
Today, problems such as femicides, violence against women, inequality between men and women, child marriages, different wage policies at workplaces, inequality in education, transportation, employment, birth health and rights, and sexual discrimination are some of the problems they face.
