Individual level: Uniqueness
Genetic Endowment, nonshared experiences
Ex: Psychological problems, behaviors and reaction related to our past experiences
Group Level: Similitudes and differences
Gender, socioeconomic status, age, geographic location, ethnicity, disability/ability, culture, religious preference, marital status, sexual orientation, race
EX: self-explanator same gender women or men, same religion
Universal level: Homo Sapiens
Ability to use symbols, common life experiences, self-awareness, biological and physical similarities.
Examples: human activities or characteristics eat, sleep, a nose, fingers, eyes, a mouth, toe ears, how we communicate, letters, alphabet etc.
Disability Framework
In 1986, Weinberg and Sterritt came out with this framework to have better understanding on disabilities and psychological adjustment
Hearing Identification= Able-bodied
Deaf Identification= disabled
Dual- Identification= Identification with both able-bodied and disabled worlds
Social Identity Theory by Tajfel (1981), group relationship and social orientation
Important aspects: Communication and Language, variety of ethnicities and social identification
