Respiratory System Aaron Hernandez - Coggle Diagram
Respiratory System Aaron Hernandez
Upper respiratory tract
nasal cavity-support mucous membranes, increase surface area to warm, filter incoming air
paranasal sinuses-reduce weight of skull
nose-prevent entry of particles
pharynx-common passageway for air and food, aids speech
Lower respiratory tract
trachea-keep airway open
larynx-transport air in and out of trachea
vocal folds
epiglottis-cover opnening of glottis
glottis-true vocal cords
bronchial tree
secondary bronchi-enter a lobe of a lung
primary bronchi-branch off trachea, leads to lung
tertiary bronchi-enter a segment of a lung
bronchioles-small tubular organs
terminal bronchioles- conduct air without gas exchange
respiratory bronchioles- contain alveolar, allows gas exchange
lungs-contain air passages, alveoli, blood vessels,
connective tissues, lymphatic vessels, and nerves
Visceral pleura-inner layer, attached to the surface of each lung
Parietal pleura-outer layer, lines the thoracic cavity
Serous fluid- lubricates the pleural cavity between the 2 layers
volumes and capacities
tidal volume-500 ml
inspiratory reserve volume-3,000 ml
expiratory reserve volume-1,200 ml
residual volume-1,200
ventilation-
inspiration-deep breathes
expiration- normal breathes
functions
Ventilation/breathing-the movement of air into and out of the lungs
External respiration- the gas exchange between lungs and blood
Gas transport-in blood between the lungs and body cells
Internal respiration-gas exchange between the blood and body cells
Cellular respiration- oxygen use by the cells, and production of carbon dioxide
Mucous membranes- of bronchial tree filter warm, and humidify incoming air
