Causes/Risks
- Genetic
- Trauma
- Nutritional
- In utero malpositioning
- Prematurity/dysmaturity
Types:
- Valgus Deformity: deviates outward (lateral)
- Varus Deformity deviates medially (inward)
Treatment
- Many correct with normal growth
- Restrict exercise
- Corrective foot trimming and extensions
Valgus: outward- trim lateral wall, apple medial extension --> opposite for varus (inward)
Surgery
- Periosteal transection and elevation "periosteal stripping" --> growth acceleration on concave side of limb
- Transphyseal briding--> growth retardation on convex side (2 screws)
