The Four Presuppositions
Pragmatism-> Moral demands should be pratical +work in each situation. Should have some form of a success criteria <- judged on how well it brings about love
Relativism -> :red_cross: 2 situations or people= same <- have rules in society but be prepared to set them aside to reach the most loving outcome
Postivism-> People can freely be Christian BUT :red_cross: give reasons why they should be <- if you claim to follow Jesus then act like it
Personalism -> Legalists put the law 1st whereas situationists put people 1st <- the command to love people + :red_cross: laws or principles
JAT Robinson
Developed a theory called a 'man come of age' -> The view that man is mature + developed enough to make ethical decisions for himself
Felt that legalistic approach of Biblical Ethics <- told people the laws they should follow= :red_cross: longer necessary + a misconception of the ethics that Jesus had taught
Instead of following strict moral laws, individuals should love each other as Jesus did (Agape)
Joseph Fletcher

Considered situationalism= middle way between 2 equally unattractive moral extremes <- antinomianism ( :red_cross: laws) people should be free to do whatever they see fit in any situation + legalism ( :check: laws) ethical decisions should always be made in acceptance with a set of strict rules or commands
Situationalism-> People must have some principle or concept to appeal to when making an ethical decision= Agape
