The verdict is that Plato very much believed in the importance of human life, balance and order, justice, and democracy. While he didn't necessarily view weapons wrong as a whole and even thought they were necessary to protect the weak, he would overall be against the complete freedom to own a weapon with such destructive force, especially in a society where they are not needed and democracy is supposed to be absolute. Plato knows very well that humans are naturally violent creatures, and a world where they can act on that impulse easily is a dangerous one, and one he would oppose. Plato would support gun control laws like we have in Canada, and would be against the complete freedom of owning a firearm in America.
