Safety
Makes sure that the glass isn't cracked to prevent cutting from glass shards.
Ensure that the edge of glass box isn't too sharp to prevent accidental cutting
Add weight at the bottom of display case to prevent the structure from easily toppling over which could break the glass.
Client/User
Cost/Budget. Attempting to keep the budget under 800 RM
Examples
Displaying products of high end designer shops like Louis Vuitton
Acrylic can be swapped out for glass if designed for client with a smaller budget.
MCM displaying student’s work
Be used in an expedition to showcase new products but the owner doesn’t want people to touch the objects
Museum that wants to display their historic artifact
Homeowners placing expensive artifacts in a huge mansion to showcase but they doesn’t want visitors to touch them.
Manufacturing
Wood will be used for the outer frame of the display case. Metal will be used in the middle for structural support and to hold the electronics together.
The wood would be cut into shape, sanded etc and then joined. Some sections needs to be cut for the glass to be placed. Then veneer would be applied over it.
Then glass that's ordered online would be joined and then placed onto a top section. The electronics would be sorted out and the magnifying glass would be placed on a storage compartment on the side of one of the wood sides and tied so it wouldn't be stolen.
Feasibility
The tools to operate this will be mostly available in school. Though I need to learn how to manage glass online. And glass and veneer will be ordered online. Same for the electronics and magnifying glass.
Location
Object will be used at luxurious store, mansions, expedition, museums or MCM's Morris building
Function
Glass display case is to display a certain artefact or expensive items.
It have a wheel powered by an electric motor to spin the object around so the user could see he 360 degree. The speed of the wheel can be tuned.
There will also be lighting on it powered by a few LED lights to light the artefact at the optimum lighting possible. Also have a variable resistor to tune its power level.
Device might have a microscope to pay close attention to the object itself.
Materials
Tempered glass, veneer, wood, Adhesives, electronics (light, variable resistor, electric motor), 3D printer to print the spin wheel. Iron for structural support?
Time
8 months time will be available for this coursework
