The Hate U Give
-
Kenya: Starr's friend. Lives in Garden Heights. Talks a lot about Khalil's death. Seven's step sister by Lesha's part.
Uncle Carlos: Starr's Uncle (from her mother's branch) Uncle Carlos is like a second father to Starr, especially while Maverick was in jail. However they both don't get along really well. Uncle Carlos is also a Police Officer.

De Vante: Black teenager from Garden Heights. He is also a member from the King Lords gang. Has a crush on Kenya and cares a lot about family
One Fifteen: Police officer who killed Khalil. He has all kinds of media in his side throughout the dilemma of the novel, even though he is racist and abuses his power as an officer.
King: Leader of King Lords gang, his name kind of explains it already. He abuses of Lesha along with Lyric and Kenya. He deals drugs all over Garden Heights and he's a very dangerous man.
Lisa Carter: Starr and Sekani's mother. She works as a nurse. She also likes to talk about second chances in life.
Chris: Starr's boyfriend. He is a rich boy from Williamson. He comforts his girlfriend while she's in school because she is surrounded by white and rich kids.
Maverick: Starr, Seven, and Sekani’s father. He owns a local drug store where he lives (Garden heights). He was also part of King Lords gang once, and even got arrested. He is Starr's inspiration on the black lives matter/black power movement.
-
Sekani: He is Starr's younger brother, his family makes sure to protect him form the outer world, outside his childhood lifestyle.
Khalil: Starr's friend who got shot by officer One Fifteen while in a traffic stop. After he died, people were saying that Khalil dealt drugs and participated in the King Lords gang.
Seven Carter: Starr's Step brother. Maverick and Lesha's son. He is a very protective brother I would say, that's because his half-sisters live with king, who is very dangerous.

Starr Carter: She is the protagonist whose story is followed through the development of the book. She lives in a poor neighborhood, however studies in a school full of rich and white teenagers. She is a very attentive and investigative person.
