The wheke was eating the bait from Kupes hooks. Kupe was angry and went to see the whekes owner Muturangi, he told him to control the wheke or he would kill it.
He chased it all over the pacific ocean and this is how he discovered Aotearoa. Kupes wife named the long white cloud (Aotearoa)
