agriculture
abiotic factors
temperature
important in agriculture because: photosynthesis, processes in living organisms, water availability, keeping species alive, how long the growing season is, potential frost can damage the more fragile parts of a plant so the blossom and growing bit,
how to control temp: heaters - disadvatages = buy the oil or gas to use them so you release carbon dioxide
put them in a barn
plants get put in a greenhouse
fans convection current - cold air collects in valley bottoms
light
important because: you can increase yield - e.g. with cows they can be manipulated into producing more milk. or with poultry and sheep they increase the breeding season when they are manipulated with light.
-
water
-
water needs to be a suffient quality - if it has nitrates and phosphates it may cause blue baby syndrome
acts as a solvent most of the reactions that happen in cells will happen in water, need for transportation of glucose
how to ensure there is sufficient water supply? irrigation, terracing, water recycling system, ploughing, adding a mulch, adding organic matter content
air
-
increase the rate of infiltration, compaction and using a mulch, adding in dom so there are more detritivores
-
salinity - high levels of evapotranspiration bring salts to the ground which forms a crust over the soil.

biotic control
pests
-
-
-
-
it is a pathogen itself e.g. mice, weeds, rabbits
types of pests - endemic pests = always around and epidemic = there may be outbreaks but its not about all the time
also indigenous and introduced. the common garden rabbit isnt native it was introduced by the romans for meat and fur. red squirrels and hedgehogs are indigenous
