Diffuse Parenchymal Abnormalities - Coggle Diagram
Diffuse Parenchymal Abnormalities
Small Scarred Kidney
result from ischemic disease
small-vessel occlusions
result from small-vessel disease
typically bilateral
diabetes, hemoglobinopathy, collagen vascular disease
Parenchymal scaring
occlusion of interlobar arteries
reflux of sterile or bacteria-laden urine
Unilateral small, smooth kidney
ischemic parenchymal injury
results from chronic renal artery stenosis or occlusion
chronic vein thrombosis
Imaging from CT or MRI with contrast
findings are small smooth kidney with delayed nephrogram, pyelogram, a hyper dense pyelogram and ureteral notching.
Bilateral small, smooth Kidney
associated with renal insufficiency
Imaged with US, non-enhanced CT, MR
Renal medullary cystic disease
small, contain numerous medullary cysts
occurs sporadically with no know treatment
Unilateral smooth renal enlargement
1 kidney larger without focal mass effect
most common cause is ureteral obstruction
most imaging studies may be used
CT with iv contrast and delayed imaging useful for obstruction location
Bilateral renal enlargement
common cause,Diabetic nephropathy
half of the cases
enlargement without associated mass effects
imaging pattern of bilat smooth, contoured nephromegaly
multiple masses
Parenchymal enlargement due to displacement of normal parenchyma by multiple renal masses.
Nephrocalcinosis
renal parenchymal calcification
Cortical nephrocacinosis
cortical outline of the kidneys are lined with calcifications
Medullary nephrocalcinosis
uniform central calcificaions of the medullary pyramids
