Noticible during newborn stage
High risk for problems with kidneys, eyes, testes/ ovaries
1/2 develop kidney cancer
Chronic kidney failure after 12 years old
Frequent infections
Early onset obesity
Excessive food intake
Teeth problems
Breathing problems
Lack of muscle tone and strength
Epilepsy
Pancreatitis
Acronym WAGR represents each of the common symptoms of WAGR Syndrome
Anindia- absense of color in iris
Genitourinary problems- urinary and genital problems in boys and girls
Wilms' Tumor- most common form of kidney cancer in children
Mental Retardation
Will have two or more conditions when diagnosed with WAGR syndrome
Deletion of a group of genese located on Chromosome #11
Diagnosis
Monitor for problems
Early treatment
Detected in early stages of develpment
Normally detected in the newborn stage
Inherited
Rarely inherited when parent carries a reagrangement
Genetic counseling can help deternmine if another child will be born with WAGR Syndrome
