Describe Photosynthesis and it's main limiting factors
How are plants and animals different in terms of how they obtain their energy? Plants and animals get their energy in different ways by creating photosynthesis in able to obtain energy. animals get energy from consuming waste and other organisms but Plants need energy to move materials in and out of the cell
differences between a STARCH molecule and a GLUCOSE one? starch is a carbohydrate that found in plants and animals and glucose is a carbohydrate but its easily absorbed more than starch
does photosynthesis produce energy. yes it does because during photosynthesis glucose is produced and the use for glucose is to release energy during respiration
What are the differences between respiration and photosynthesis?in photosynthesis light energy is fixed whereas, in respiration, energy is released. respiration occurs with oxygen whereas plants use sunlight in photosynthesis as well as water and carbon dioxide to create oxygen
the uses a plant makes of glucose
its used for energy
to make other substances like cellulose and starch
its stored as a food source
it can be used for building cell walls
chlorophyll uses UV radiation
rate- how fast it happens
light intensity affects photosynthesis the most, if there is a lot of light photosynthesis will take place but if there is little or not light it wont happen at all
when temperature rises the reaction speeds up but if the temperature is too high the enzymes controlling photosynthesis are denatured therefore the rate will fall this happens at around 40-50 degress
plants need carbon dioxide to make glucose but the atmosphere only has 0.04% this means it somtimes limits the rate of photosynthesis. on a sunny day its the most limiting factor for plants so the highest rate is a night.in a greenhouse the rate will atificially increase. if you have more carbon coming in you will have more in glucose
enzymes dont break down they denature. denaturing is when bonds start to break or unravel
equation for photosynthesis-Carbon Dioxide + Water ------ Glucose and Oxygen symbol equation-6CO2+6H2O---LIGHT----C6H1206+602
photosynthesis revision
it uses energy to change carbon dioxide and water to glucose and oxygen
it happens in chloroplasts in green plant cells it contains pigments such as chlorophyll that absorb light
energy is transferred to the chloroplasts from the environment by light
its endothermic which means energy is transferred from environment
plants use glucose in many ways- for respiration, making cellulose for strong plant walls, making amino acids, stored as oils or fats, stored as starch
the rate is affected by light(at night),concentration of co2 (warm and bright enough) and temperature(winter)
the amount of chlorophyll in a plant can be affected by disease or environmental stress. if this happens the rate of photosynthesis is reduced because they cant absorb enough light
as the light level is raised the rate also increases up to a certain point beyond that it wont make any difference in the lab you change light intensity by moving a lamp closer or further away
too little carbon also slows the rate down and the temperature cant be too cold or too hot otherwise the enzymes will be damaged around 45 degrees
farmers can increase carbon dioxide by using a paraffin heater
