Know your individual students, know what motivates and excites them. To be an impactful teacher you should know the student as an individual and unique person with different strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Notify parents, management, caretakers of situation
Plan according to the level of the student, use differentiated instruction
Take care in planning instruction to the student so that the instruction builds on their current skills while addressing their academic and social needs
Provide scaffolding support, be a role model to the students
Provide extra attention, one-on-one support
Ongoing assessments to assure comprehension, don’t wait until the end, have assessments at the end of each subject or lesson to confirm comprehension. Assessments can direct the learner and give them feedback as well as reinforcing comprehension.
If more serious problems continue, consider contacting a professional to diagonose if need be
Communicate with parents to have school-home collaboration, make sure learning and routines are consistent
Provide one-on-one or small group instructions
Continue to develop differentiated instruction, continue to monitor, observe and change depending on the circumstances.
