HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
DEFINITION
HRD can be defined as organized learning activities arranged within an organization in order to improve performance and/or personal growth for the purpose of improving the job, the individual, and/or the organization.
HRD helps the employees in developing their knowledge, skills and abilities to achieve self-fulfillment and aid in the accomplishment of organizational goals.
FUNCTION HRD
Improve performance and ability.
The capabilities of each individual in relation to his or her present role.
Collaboration among different units of the organisation.
CONCEPT HRD
Acquire or sharpen capabilities required to perform various functions associated with their present or expected future roles.
Develop their general capabilities as individuals and discover and exploit their own inner potentials for their own and/or organisational development purposes
Develop an organisational culture in which supervisor-subordinate relationships, teamwork and collaboration among sub-units are strong and contribute to the professional well being, motivation and pride of employees.

HRD makes people more competent. It also develops new skill, knowledge and attitude of the people in the concern organisations.
It also helps to create the efficiency culture In the organisation. It leads to greater organisational effectiveness. Resources are properly utilised and goals are achieved in a better way.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HRM AND HRD
HRM motivates the employees by giving them monetary incentives or rewards whereas human resource development stresses on motivating people by satisfying higher-order needs.
Human resource management mainly aims to improve the efficiency of the employees whereas aims at the development of the employees as well as organisation as a whole.
Responsibility of human resource development is given to the personnel/human resource management department and specifically to personnel manager whereas responsibility of HRD is given to all managers at various levels of the organisation.
CHARACTERISTIC HRD
There's training. New hires need to be trained how to do their job, and occasionally, current employees need additional training, perhaps to advance in their career or to learn new skills for their current position.
Creating and maintaining relationships within the company is another familiar characteristic of human resource development. The HR department often models the type of behavior that is expected, such as using problem-solving skills, having good communication, and being open-minded to changes.
