this age takes inspiration from the augustian age and is also called 'augustian age'. because as augustus ruled after a period of war england wants to reproduce the same succes as that golden age
but most of england was composed by ingorants (merchants) so literature was used to give knowledge and glorify the rising of england.
people were educated by newspaper and novels (literal production that describe middle class men as robinson crusoe). moste of ther were edited by 'the cuttler' and 'the spectator', megazines that talked about politic and manners
novel from the latin 'new'. but it wasn't truly new, it was just a word to emphatize the new values and create a gap from romanze (that talked about aristocratic and epic values)
general features
means the light of reason: the power thaat reason has to put light in the people and lead them to a rational path
this idea was also a reinassance idea, because men took conciousness of theri wit and rationality. for example in england, under charles II was introduced the royal society with isaac newton as president
it was introduced a new concept of religion since in christianity the knowledge is given by god, not human wit, which is unacceptable. introduced the deism: a theroy that refuses any form of revelation, but that accepte the exsitence of a rational principle
but god is a form of order and stability, what gives balance now? lock and hobbes found an answer: man. men in origin were organised by the law of nature and reason, so the power of wit exsisting in every man. which turned into the civil law, modeled on the state of nature.
