Types of AI Applications
(Kaplan & Haenlein, 2019)
Human Inspired AI
-
Affectiva, an AI company founded by MIT, uses advanced vision systems to recognise emotions like joy, surprise and anger at the same level and frequently better than humans. Companies can use such systems to recognise emotions during customer interactions or while recruiting new employees.
Humanised AI
These systems display cognitive, emotional and social intelligence, and would be self-conscious and self-aware in their interactions with others.
-
Analytic AI
These AI systems generate a cognitive representation of the world and use learning based on past experience to inform future decisions
Augmented Intelligence
think of technology as something that enhances human intelligence.
(Bates, 2019)
Gartner (2019) defined augmented intelligence as a human-centred partnership model of people and AI working together to enhance cognitive performance
IBM concede that there is a problem with algorithmic bias and that human judgement is required in decision-making
(Nott, 2018)
(McKinsy, Sept. 2018)
By 2030, companies that were early AI adopters could potentially double their cash flow, while nonadopters might experience around 20% decline in cash flow
By 2030, roughly 70% of companies will have adopted at least one type of AI technology, up from 33% today

Adam Lashinsky, 2018
"Sooner rather than later, AI will be infused in [our daily life] in ways we couldn't possibly fathom today"
