TERMS AND CONCEPTS :explode:
Curriculum
The curriculum includes the outline of the subject that will be taught, and provide teaching and learning methods to make sure that pupils have obtained the necessary information. (Wisegeek.com, 2014)
According to Surbhi S (2017) Curriculum, in a theoretical sense, refers to what the school or college offer.
It also covers the knowledge, attitude, behavior, manner, performance, and abilities that are transferred or taught in a student through practicing.
It includes teaching strategies, lessons, homework, physical and mental exercises, activities, projects, study materials, tutorials, presentations, assessments, test series, and learning objectives, among other things.
Examples:
"students will learn to respect and get along with people of different cultures".
"students will attain an appreciation for literature, art, music".
Teaching Programme :pencil2:
A teaching programme is a shared plan that outlines how students will be able to receive the courses offered as part of a degree program or specialization.
The goal is to ensure that the studies are done in a logical and orderly way.
A teaching program describes how the curriculum is applied during the academic year.
It also includes the timetable, which details where and when classes are conducted.
In addition to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes, teaching programmes are prepared for the Language Centre and Open University.
Syllabus :red_flag:
It enables students to gain a thorough understanding of the subject, why it is included in their course of study, what is expected of them, and the consequences of failure, among other things.
General regulations, policies, instructions, topics studied, assignments, projects, exam dates, and so on are all included.
According to Okai (2010) a syllabus is part of the curriculum and not the
curriculum itself.
The national syllabus is sometimes so vast that it cannot be completed in two years.
Following that, department heads and subject instructors should create and develop their own school syllabus based on the broader national syllabus.
Even when the syllabus can be completed within the course time frame, it is still important that teachers make their own school syllabus as derived from the national syllabus so that they have a simpler school based document.
Curriculum Goals :tada:
According to Hlebowitsh (2004) purposes of the curriculum can be stated as;
1) It may refer to all courses offered at a school.
2) It may refer to a defined and prescribed course of studies.
3) It may list course of studies which students must fulfil in order to pass a certain level of education
4) It may discuss how the sum of lessons and teachings will help students learn the basics.
It is aimed at both physical and mental development of a student.
Objectives :check:
Instructors have a lot of responsibilities other than conveying the syllabus. They should accurately plan their objectives to be able to;
Help students achieve knowledge.
Shape character and behavior.
Foster independence.
Motivate students
Learning objectives are statements that describe what you plan to teach or cover throughout a learning activity.
They are more specific than learning goals.
Instructor-centered rather than student-centered.
Examples:
"We will cover historical perspectives and debates about the role of mass communication in the 20th century."
"Students will understand the impacts and effects of new media on identity formation."
Learning Outcomes :!?:
Learning outcomes are specific statements of what students will be able to do when they successfully complete a learning experience.
They are student- centered.
They help teachers describe to students what is expected of them.
Plan effective teaching strategies, materials, and evaluations.
Examine how the outcomes of a single course relate to the program's overall goals.
Examples:
As a result of participating in Quantitative Reasoning and Technological Literacy I, students will be able to evaluate statistical claims in the popular press.
As a result of completing Money and Banking, students will be able determine the cost benefits and shortcomings of various cash management strategies.
