Whites, as the civilised race, were entiteled to hace absolute control over the state
White interest should prevail over black interest and the state was not obliged to provide equal facilities for the subordinate races
All whites formed a single nation while Africans belonged to several (eventually 10) distinct nations, making the white nation the largest in the country
Key Acts
1949 : prohibition of Mixed marriage Act > Prohibited marriages between white people and those of other races
1950 : the Immorality Act = made marriage and sexual relations illegal between members of distinct race

1950 Group Areas Act = created different areas for different races > forced removal of residents who are in the "wrong" area (sophiatown inhabitants taken to Meadowlands> new white suburb)

1952 : native law amendment Act = narrowed the definition of the category of blacks who had the right of permanent residence in towns + 1952 : abolition of passes
1953 : Bantu Education Act (established black education department in the department of native Affair) = Reservation of Separate Amenities Act (forces segregation in all public anemities)
1970: Bantu Homelands Citizens Act compelled all black people to become a citizen of the homeland that corresponded to their ethnic group.
1971 Bantu Homeland Constitution Act allowed gov to grant "independance" to any Homeland (1973 Transkei, 1977 Bophuthatswana, Venda 1979, Ciskei 1981)
