Expectancy: Belief that working hard → desired performance. Make the person feel competent (training)
Instrumentality: Belief of Successful performance → rewards. Communicate link: performance → reward and which reward
Valence: Value a person assigns to such rewards/ work outcome. To ↑ value, match rewards with employee needs
