- - - - Colombia was the only Latin American country to actively participate in the UN Forces during the Korean War, with ground soldiers and its only frigate, the Almirante. Colombian soldiers initially landed in Korea on May 8, 1951, and the last left on October 11, 1954. There were a total of 4,314 soldiers deployed.
        
        "Around 5,100 Colombian soldiers fought in the war under the UN flag against the North Korean forces backed by the Soviet Union and China. The war left 213 Colombians dead and 448 wounded."

      - The Korean War erupted in the aftermath of World War II. During the war, the Japanese Empire seized the Korean Peninsula. The victorious Allies partitioned the peninsula on the 38th parallel after defeating Japan. The southern section was occupied by US soldiers, while the northern part was occupied by Soviet troops. On June 25, North Korea invaded South Korea, escalating a border conflict between the two Koreas.

      - The Colombian Battalion was a Colombian Army infantry battalion that served under UN Command during the Korean War from 1951 until 1954. The battalion was the first Colombian military force to operate in Asia, and it was assigned to the US 7th and 25th Infantry Divisions.
