Whether animal abuse is intentional or the result of ignorance it is frequently linked to speciesism, which is the belief that other animals are inferior to humans, implying that people have the 'right' to do whatever they want with them since they own them.
Animal abuse is when someone intentionally begins to hurt any sort of animal, by torturing them, wounding, or even killing them for fun.
Just like when someone is a bully and takes their anger and revenge on the kid at school, some people who are cruel to animals repeat behaviors that they have witnessed or have had done to them.

Animal cruelty of any kind is a matter for worry because it is unethical to cause misery to any living thing. But on the other hand when someone intentionally is cruel towards an animal that is concerning because it could mean two things, either an indication of psychological suffering or this person typically has already suffered violence growing up.
