Plant like protists, Gardenia Alsaikhan
Green Algae
.
-
-Green algae have several characteristics in common with plants. -Green algae contain chlorophyll as a primary photosynthetic pigment and have a green color.
-
Red Algae
.
-
-
-
-Some red algae also contribute to the formation of coral reefs. -The cell walls of the red alfa Coraline contain calcium carbonate.
Brown Algae
.
-
-
Fucoxanthin are a type of cartinoides that give them their brown color Kelp is an example of brown algae.
-
-
-
Diatoms
.
-
-
-
-They live in Oceans and fresh water, mostly in colonies. -They have a yellow, golden-brown color due to the pigments, cartinoides.
Dinoflagellates
.
-
-
-They spin as they move due to having two flagella at a 90 degree angle. -Some are autographs, others are heterotrophs.
-Some in are found in fresh water but most are found in salt water. -Cell walls are made of cellulose.
Euglenoids
-Members of phylum Euglenophyta and are unicellular
-They are found in shallow fresh water and others live in saltwater.
-They have the characteristics of both plants and animals. -Euglenoids are autotrophs but when light is unavailable, they become heterotrophs. They contain chloroplast but they lack a cell wall.
-They use flagella to move and have eyespots to find light.
Chrysophytes
-Members of phylum chrysophyta and are called chrysophytes.
-The pigment they use are cartinoides, giving their golden-brown color.
-Most in this phylum are unicellular but some form colonies.
-They are all photosynthetic but some species also can absorb dissolved organic compounds through their cell walls or ingest food particles and prokaryotes.
-They have two flagellum attached at each end of the cell.
