"solitary" - does not rely on others and rarely has anyone around him

compared to an oyster which could suggest he has a tough outer shell
but beyond the tough outer shell heir is a pearl hidden
Therefore he has the potential of being kind but it is hidden
which could make him be seen as an misanthrope (a person who hates or distrust mankind).

Ebeneezer Scrooge - an old mean spirited Victorian Businessman
Ebeneezer - Hebrew name which means stone of help
Although initially presented as a money obsessed/ misanthropic and unsympathetic miser during the opening stave the possibility of scrooges redemption is glimpsed by its end. n

Scrooge lack empathy and humanity as he does not care how the poor are treated.
he does not see the poor as people but instead numbers
