Urinary Dysfunction, Bowel Dysfunction - Coggle Diagram
Urinary Dysfunction
-
Alterations of neuromuscular function-promotes in retention or incontinence, may involve the peripheral or central nervous system
CAUSES
Failure of impulse control to stimulate ability to eliminate urine from central nervous system. Also possibility to have opposite affect with exaggerated responses to increase impulses of stimulation.
Muscle function is damaged not allowing either parastalsis and smooth muscle, or loss of ability to constrict sphincter causing incontinence
DISEASE-MS
TREATMENT-anticholinergic or alpha-adrenergic antagonist medications to improve tone and contractile function

Bowel Dysfunction
-
-
Alterations in Patency also known as bowel obstruction by lesion blocking lumen of intestine partially or totally
CAUSES
Object blocks or decreases space in intestine. This then causes edema as venous return is decreased. Edema in wall of intestine then causes increased area of blockage and reduced absorptive capacity. Also possible for edema to promote worsening gas and fluid accumulation in abdomen.
DISEASE-Diverticulosis
TREATMENT High fiber, low fat diet
TREATMENT Avoidance with constipation, drink at least 2L water a day
