Concept Three

Explanation
Use the slope and the y intercept to graph a line, based off of that write your equation
Examples
if the slope(m) for a line is 2 and the y-intercept 'b' is -1, then the equation of the straight line is written as y = 2x - 1.
Explanation
To use the rise/run method on, you need to plot two grided points on a graph, then begin to rise to reach the other grided point and count the lines you are rising vertically, then horizontally count the lines to find out your run. Have the rise number as your numerator and your run number as your denominator.
To use the slope formula you need to get two points and label each number in the ordered pair as the following, (x1,y1) (x2,y2) then have y2 and y1 subtracted over x2 and x1. (y2-y1/x2-y2) begin to subtract y2 and y1 as well as x2 and x1 and have to difference in as an improper fraction.
Examples
Example A: if we have a slope of 2 and we're on one point, we would move up 2 (rise) and to the right 1 (run) to find the next point.
Example B: y = 5x + 3 is an example of the Slope Intercept Form and represents the equation of a line with a slope of 5 and and a y-intercept of 3. y = −2x + 6 represents the equation of a line with a slope of −2 and and a y-intercept of 6.
Explanation
Find the slope using rise over run, then find the y-intercept (where the line cuts the y axis. Use m and b in y=mx+b to write the equation.
Examples
y = 2x + 4, slope = 2 and y-intercept = 4
-
Explanation
Using an ordered pair (x,y) with the 'x' variable representing the number on the x axis and the y variable representing the number on the y axis.
y=mx+b. Y represents the y axis variable that is on the order pair, the m represents the slope of the equation on the graph, the x represents the x axis variable on the order pair, the b represents the y intercept, meaning when the line cuts the y axis.
To plot a point using y=mx+b you need to first find and plot the y-intercept (b) then you need to use the slope and do the rise/run method.
Examples
Example A: (0,0) and (5,4). First, plot the points on the graph, after that you need to connect the points and extend the line with two arrows on each end of the line.
Example B: y=5x+3, what is the slope and the y-intercept of this equation? the slope is 5 and the y-intercept is 3
