The history of National Book Store can be traced back to the 1930s. However, the company has been formally established in 1942. Before the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during World War II, José Ramos and Socorro Cáncio-Ramos, rented a small-corner space of a Haberdashery situated at the foot of Escolta Bridge in Santa Cruz, Manila. With a starting capital of ₱211 (equivalent to ₱55,000 in 2019), the Ramoses set up their first retail bookstore selling GI novels, text books and supplies.

Mercury Drug is a pharmacy chain in the Philippines.The company began on March 1, 1945[1] with a single drugstore owned by Mariano Que.He named it after Mercury, the messenger of the gods in Roman mythology, whose caduceus wand is sometimes used as a symbol of medicine, as well as the first planet in the Solar System.

Mariano Que discovered a commercial opportunity. Que, who had worked at a local drugstore before the war, opened his own drugstore when he noticed the demand for sulfa, a type of antibiotic used to treat bacterial illnesses.
He began selling good-quality sulfa for a low price. As a result, he was able to expand his clientele. In 1945, he founded the Mercury Drug chain of pharmacies.

Zest-O Corporation is a beverage company in the Philippines. It was founded in 1981 as SEMEXCO Marketing Corporation. While touring Europe in 1979, Yao learned about the Doypack packaging format in one of the European trade exhibits he visited. He bought one machine and tried to market the Doypack packaging format to juice drink manufacturers in the Philippines. When no company took interest, he decided to market his own brand of fruit juice drink. He put up a company called SEMEXCO Marketing Corporation and launched Zest-O orange juice drink in 1980

In 1975, Tony Tan Caktiong and his family opened a Magnolia ice cream parlor in Cubao, Quezon City. The outlet later began offering hot meals and sandwiches upon request from customers. When the food items became more popular than ice cream, the family decided to convert the ice cream parlor into a fast food restaurant which became the first Jollibee outlet in 1978.Management consultant Manuel C. Lumba advised the family on the change in strategy.Jollibee was initially named "Jolibe", but changed its name to "Jollibee"
