Phases (Athletics)

Transition Phase
End of season: Active rest consisting of low level of aerobic training (e.g. cycling and swimming). This training will build as the next preparation phase approaches.

Mesocycle
Mid-term training goal, over a period of 4-16 weeks. Aims to develop a particular component of fitness e.g. develop power. Broken down into micro-cycle
Marcocycle
Long term training goals, typically over a full year. Broken down into meso-cycles
Mircocycle
Short-term training goal, typically over 1-3 weeks. Aims to achieve a short term goal. E.g. Sprinter training starts there.
